Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area situated in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. The West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar with its meaning. Many people believe that it is an island that lies west of Montreal, but the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine and West. It is often cited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, but after a sudden increase in size, her friends could no longer dance with her. The Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. After I surpassed my male counterparts at that point, I gave up. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In Brugel's case it was the guidance from her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her to the path she wanted. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the annual school production. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in 2000. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she has been in over 60 productions including big screen productions and on smaller ones. Her most notable role was the one of Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel played the role of the character of Rita on The Handmaid's tale which was produced over the course of ten years.
